World’s oldest man John Tinniswood dies at age of 112

New York: The world’s oldest man, John Tinniswood, has died at the age of 112. Guinness World Records (GWR) issued a statement  stating that John Tinniswood died on November 25, 2024, at an old age care home in Southport, England. His family told GWR that he was enjoying music and dance until his death.

Born on August 26, 1912, Tinniswood held the record for the world’s oldest living person from April 2024, following the death of 114-year-old Juan Vicente Perez of Venezuela. According to Guinness World Records, Tinniswood had no special explanation for how he managed to live so long, calling it ‘God’s grace’.

He told GWR earlier this year, “You either live a long time or a short time, and you can’t do much about it.” However, one of his advices for staying healthy was, “Do everything in moderation.” He used to say, “If you drink too much or eat too much or walk too much; you overdo anything, you will eventually suffer the consequences.”

John Tinniswood also had some life tips for the new generation. He said, “Always try your best, whether you are learning something or teaching someone. Try to give what you have to give to society. Because these things will not go with you.” Tinniswood is survived by his daughter Suzanne, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. According to GWR, the oldest person ever was Jiroemon Kimura of Japan. He was born in 1897 and died in 2013 at the age of 116.

This year, the world’s oldest woman also died. Maria Branyas Morera, born in America, died at the age of 117 years and 168 days. She was the eighth oldest woman. The record for the longest-living person is held by Jeanne Louise Calment. According to GWR, Calment, born on February 21, 1875, lived for 122 years and 164 days.
